Highland Match Play “Ladder” Competition, 2016

In 2016 the Budapest Highland Golf Club starts a new competition for its members and green fee golfers. This new competition will yield a special club ranking, the Highland Match Play „Ladder”.

The competition will be ongoing between the 1st of April and 30th of September. In October the championship will be decided by a play off (see bellow).

A round of the competition will be individual match play on 9 holes without taking into account the handicap difference. The specific rules of the match play is in Appendix 1.

No entry fee will be charged for club members eligible to play on the 9 hole course. All other players will have to buy a green fee for 9 holes for each competition round.

Management of the „Ladder” ranking

Initial „Ladder” ranking on the 1st of April will be announced by the Club. Any golfer with a handicap can join the Ladder. The initial ranking will be compiled according to the players’ handicaps, better players placed on the top of the „Ladder”. If anyone wants to join the „Ladder” after the 1st of April, then the Club will place him/her on the Ladder ten places bellow the ranking based on his/her actual playing strength. Those joining after 31st of May will not be eligible to play in the play off.

Any player can challenge any other player maximum four places ahead of him/her on the „Ladder”. The challenged player is obliged to accept the challenge and agree upon a tee time maximum one week ahead. The challenge can be postponed if the challenged already has a previously arranged competition match coming up, or she/he is unavailable to play. This latter excuse can be used maximum twice in the season.

If the challenger wins the match, or the challenged does not accept the challenge, or he does not show up for the match, the two players change places on the „Ladder”. If the challenged player wins the round or if it is a tie, then the players’ ranking does not change.

After a match the challenger can challenge the same player again only after challenging somebody else.

If the two players change place then the challenged player can ask for a rematch only after challenging somebody else.

Any player can quit the „Ladder” any time. The Club will delete those players from the „Ladder”, who turn down a challenge more than twice in the season or do not show up for a match.

Deciding the Highland Match Play Champion: the top four players according to the end of the season (30th of September) „Ladder” ranking will play a play off to decide the championship title. The play format of the play off is also individual match play on 9 holes. During the play off the first placed player plays against the fourth placed, while the second placed plays against the third. Then the two winners play for the championship title.

Prizes: the prize of the Highland Match Play Champion is HUF 100.000 Highland voucher, while the runner up receives HUF 50.000 voucher.

Special prize: the player having the most wins during the season will receive a special prize of HUF 50.000.

Competition organization: the „Ladder” ranking is managed by the Club. Individually organized matches should be reported to the Club reception via e-mail (recepcio@highlandgolf.hu) or over the phone one day in advance. The result of the match should be communicated to the reception without delay. If a player is challenged by more than one player, the earlier challenge should be played first.

The format of the play is individual match play, where one player plays against another on 9 holes. Tee time is agreed upon by the two players in advance.

Competition committee

Forgó Ferenc – managing director          Szigeti Csaba – Head Pro             Babka Ildikó – organizer

Rules of play

Both players strive to achieve minimal stroke by each hole (score). Winning a hole by scoring less is worth a point. Same score on a hole means halving the point. The match is won by the player who has more points after 9 holes. Play can be finished earlier if one player has so many points that the match cannot be tied or turned around. If the match is a tie after 9 holes, then that is the final result, and the two players do not change places. Playing in the competition does not change the players’ handicap.

Tees: men – yellow; senior (55+) and junior (up to 12) – blue; ladies and girls – red

Players should report their match one day in advance at the reception and book a tee time. To record the result, the players should use the score card available at the reception. The score card should be filled in with the date of play, players’ name, the scores, and handed in to the reception immediately after the play.

Electric buggy can be used with the permission of the competition committee in case a medical certificate is also presented. Electronic measuring devices can be used according to the guidelines of the Hungarian Golf Federation. In case of a junior player the parents and close relatives cannot be caddies.

It is the responsibility of the players to be aware of the competition rules. The decisions of the competition committee are final, no appeal can be handed in. The current results will be continuously updated at the reception an on the Club website.

The competition committee reserves the right of changing the competition rules!
